Learn more about the Westpac Earth Platinum Card if you want to apply

This account comes with two convenient cards attached to the same account. This means you’re dealing with the same credit limit and all your transactions will be displayed for you on the same statement, but you also have the choice of two cards to use when you’re paying for things you need.

This account offers you an Earth Platinum MasterCard along with an Earth Platinum American Express card. The difference between which one you use is limited only to the number of Frequent Flyer points you earn.

For example, if you choose to use your MasterCard to pay for purchases you’ll earn 0.50 points per $1. This increases to 1.00 points per $1 if you choose to use your American Express card instead. Regardless of which card you use, you’ll earn an additional bonus point on top of your regular points for each dollar you spend on eligible Qantas products using your cards.

The number of points you’re able to earn is capped at 3,750 per statement month, but this limit does not apply to any bonus points you may earn throughout that time. Bonus points are uncapped and unlimited each month.

Special Promotion

  • 0.99% p.a. for up to 6 months on balance transfers at card application (limited time offer, minimum $200)
  • 20000 Bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points on new Earth Platinum cards. Apply between 2 April – 1 July 2013 if you complete a balance transfer rate available at credit card application. These bonus points will be transferred to you within 14 days after your Credit Card statement has been issued, after your first eligible purchase transaction using either one of your cards

Features of the Westpac Earth Platinum Credit Card

Interest free days

You can also take advantage of as many as 45 days where you won’t be charged interest on the purchases you make on your cards. You can effectively pay for the things you need at the beginning of the month and then take a few weeks to repay whatever you spent without accruing any interest. This only applies to accounts where you’ve repaid the entire balance amount owing before the due date on your statement each month.

It also won’t apply to cash advances made on your account. These attract the cash advance interest rate from the date the transaction occurred. They may also attract an additional cash advance fee.

Special interest offer

If you’re already a Westpac Earth Platinum cardholder you could benefit by being charged a special interest rate on any Qantas products you purchase.

Simply use your card to pay for products or services that are more than $500 and those amounts will only attract an interest rate of 5.99%. You will need to call Westpac and let them know of the purchase you made. This will activate the reduced interest rate for you on those purchase amounts.

Platinum perks

Being the owner of a prestige Platinum credit card gives you access to a range of perks and privileges. These include access to your own personal concierge, as well as a variety of insurance policies attached to the account. These include:

Overseas travel insurance

If you’re travelling internationally for up to six months and you pay for most of your travel expenses using your credit card, you could benefit from being automatically covered. This policy covers you for a range of medical expenses you may incur while overseas.

Personal liability coverage

There are times when you may accidentally cause damage to property or cause harm to another person. This is where you could be covered for as much as $2.5 million in personal liability cover.

Personal property protection

If your personal items are accidentally damaged, lost or stolen while you’re travelling, you could claim for as much as $15,000 for these.

Personal documents cover

If you lose or damage your travel documentation, including your passport, you could claim for up to $550 for the loss of these.

Rental vehicle excess insurance

If you’re involved in an accident and you need to pay an excess on your policy, the excess amount could be covered under this policy up to a maximum of $5,000.

Transit accident insurance

Travelling to or from an airport, bus terminal or dock as part of your trip may require you to be aboard a transit vehicle. This might be as a passenger aboard a bus, taxi, train, ferry or plane. If you’re involved in an accident you could be covered for up to $250,000.

Purchase security cover

If you purchase items on your credit card and they are accidentally damaged, lost or stolen within 3 months of the purchase date, you could claim and be reimbursed for the cost you paid.

Extended warranty

Whenever you buy items using your credit card that have an Australian manufacturer’s warranty on them, you can extend this warranty period by as long as 12 months.

    Hi,
What is the currency conversion fee on this credit card please? Do you have a credit card available which has no currency conversion fees?
    Thanks,

      Jeremy | October 24, 2011

      Hi Sheryl

      Thanks for your question

The Westpac Foreign Transaction Fee is the sum of the Westpac Processing Fee and the Westpac On-Charged Scheme Fee.

      1. Westpac Processing Fee: A fee of 2.0% of the value of any purchase or Cash Advance/withdrawal transaction made in a foreign currency, following conversion into Australian dollars by the applicable Credit Card scheme, is payable. This fee will be incorporated into the Australian currency equivalent of the transaction shown on your statement.

      2. Westpac On-Charged Scheme Fee –
      MasterCard® Issuer Cross Border Assessment – 0.8%
      MasterCard® Currency Conversion Assessment – 0.2%
American Express® Foreign Exchange Conversion Fee – 1.5%.

      Hope this helps!

      Cheers

      Jeremy

      Hi Neil

      Thanks for question.

The 33,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points offer applies only once per new Earth Platinum account. You must make an eligible purchase on either of your new Earth Platinum cards by 20 January 2012 to receive the 33,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Bonus points will be credited to your account 3 months from your first spend. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other offers.

      Cheers

Hello, i am waiting for the bonus points to be credited to my card.
Can you tell me what you mean by ‘eligible’ purchase on the credit card. i have already used it, but no bonus points have appeared, only those for the purchase.

    • Staff
      Jeremy | March 6, 2012

      Hi Robin,

Eligible purchases are the purchases set out by your financial institution where you are able to earn points. The transaction where you earn points would be considered an eligible purchase while the transactions where no points were earnt would not. Please refer to the terms and conditions for further clarification on what Westpac does and does not consider an eligible purchase. Thanks for your question, hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Jeremy

Hi I took out an Earth Platinum card before the offer closed and also opened an extra Westpac account at the same time. The card was activated immediately. I am still waiting on the 33000 points but recently got credited into my qantas 15000 points?
Not sure why i have got 15000 and is there still 33000 likely to arrive?

      Hello Brian,
      thanks for the comment.

It may be more helpful to contact Westpac regarding this, as they may be able to provide more information as to what may be happening.

      I hope this helps,
      Marc.

Hi, my daughter and I are trekking in Nepal in October. I paid for both air tickets Brisbane to Kathmandu return on my AMEX (secondary cardholder, my husband is the primary). What travel insurance is included?

    • Staff
      Jeremy | May 18, 2012

      Hi, Charmaine.

Thanks for your question. The Westpac Earth Platinum Credit Card comes with complimentary international travel insurance, purchase security insurance and extended warranty insurance.

The Westpac insurance policies are provided by Zurich Insurance. In their terms and conditions they state that: ‘We (Zurich) do not insure you for any event that is caused by or arises from you failing to follow advice or take heed of a warning from: your mountaineering or rock climbing (if you need to use climbing equipment, ropes or guides), white water rafting or boating, abseiling, bungy jumping, pot holing, running with the bulls, caving or tobogganing;’

There are a number of activities that Zurich will not provide cover for. You will have to discuss this further with the insurance provider and run through your itinerary to see whether or not your planned activities are excluded from cover.

      Cheers
      Jeremy

Instead of buying a travel card pre loaded with foreign currencies i am considering preloading a credit card with cash. Assuming I have a zero debit balance before loading the card, would there be any interest charged when I withdraw cash from an ATM overseas. What ATM fees would be charged in USA, UK and Europe. This card would only be used for cash withdrawals so as not to get into debt. thanks

    • Staff
      Jacob | June 23, 2012

Hi Tony. Thanks for the question. There is no interest charged on the money withdrawn from a credit card while it has a positive balance. Check out our page on travel money for further information on this topic.

for every earned point we have, when we want to transfer it to qantas frequent flyer account, will you get one point of qantas frequent flyer? is it 1:1?

    • Staff
      Jacob | July 19, 2012

Hi Kuan. Thanks for your question. When you spend on your Westpac Earth Platinum Card, points are automatically credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account at the rate of: ’1 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per $1 spent on purchases with your Earth Platinum Plus American Express Card, 0.5 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per $1 spent on purchases on your Earth Platinum Plus MasterCard and 1 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer point per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services.’ That was taken from the Westpac application page, for further information, please consult the terms and conditions. Hope this helps.

Membership to the Frequent Flyer program is complimentary when you get this card too.

Can i change my altitude credit cards to a Westpac earth card to earn qantas f/flyer awards?

    • Staff
      Marc | March 20, 2013

      Hello Brian,
      thanks for the question,

The Altitude Credit Card is a separate credit card to the Earth card, so this would require you to apply for the Earth card of your choice as you regularly would for a new credit card.

      I hope this helps,
      Marc.

I’m looking at getting 6 linked cards for a company’s executive team. Would this mean all 6 cards had to be linked to a single limit and the rewards to the same account? Or could the application be for 6 seperate cards with seperate limits and seperate rewards accounts?

    • Staff
      Jacob | February 11, 2013

Hi Shaun. You can do either. If you choose to sign up yourself and make your employees supplementary cardholders, all six cards would be linked to the one account and all spending and rewards points will be credited to the main card. An additional cardholder can spend on the card, but they can’t perform higher order account changes, like change credit limits etc. If you wish for all six cards to be in each of your employee’s names, they will have to sign up for a card themselves and all cards will be separate. Thanks.
