Westpac Ignite Credit Card – Frequently Asked Questions

Posted March 14th, 2010 and last modified May 10th, 2011
Since the new Westpac Ignite Credit Card is the same as the old Virgin Money Credit Card, it will still honor the "no annual fee" policy. Since the new Westpac Ignite Credit Card is the same as the old Virgin Money Credit Card, it will still honor the "no annual fee" policy.

The Westpac Ignite Credit Card is designed to offer Virgin Credit Card customers the same level of service and access without disrupting your credit facilities. You don’t need to change your Virgin account over to Westpac to continue enjoying your current credit card.

What Is the Westpac Ignite Credit Card?

The Westpac Ignite Credit Card is the new name for your previous Virgin Money credit card. For the past 5 years, Virgin has been working in conjunction with Westpac Bank to provide customers with the Virgin Credit Card, but this agreement will not be continuing.

For this reason, if you currently hold a Virgin Credit Card, it will have the ‘Virgin Money’ name removed from the account and the Westpac Ignite name will appear on your statements.

Your credit card will operate the same way as it always was when you first received it as a Virgin Credit Card, but you’ll receive a new look card and statement to reflect the removal of the Virgin name.

What Will Change With a Westpac Ignite Credit Card?

Westpac have worked hard to offer existing Virgin credit card holders as little disruption to their normal credit facilities as possible. With this in mind, Westpac will honour the ‘no annual fee’ policy.

Even though you may receive a new red Westpac Ignite credit card to replace your Virgin credit card, your card number will remain exactly the same. The only thing that will change is the expiry date of your card.

Your pre-existing direct debits and statement cycle dates will also remain exactly the same, as your account hasn’t changed. You simply continue to use your card and make your payments the same way you always have.

What Happens to the Rewards Program?

Unfortunately, the old ‘Mates Rates’ Reward program will be replaced by a new online Instant Offers program that is designed to offer Westpac Ignite Credit Card holders discounted offers for entertainment, concerts, movies, theatre, travel, shopping and lifestyle.

Will You Need to Become a Westpac Customer?

If you’re not currently a Westpac customer, but you hold a Virgin Credit Card account, you won’t need to become a Westpac customer or register for anything in any way. You will just receive your future credit card statements with the new brand of Westpac Ignite Credit Card on it.

However, if you are already a Westpac customer for other aspects of your banking, then you will be able to log into your existing online banking account and transfer funds between your normal accounts and your new Westpac Ignite credit card.
