Woolworths has grown to be more than just a place to do your shopping. Whether it’s petrol, food or your credit card repayments — there are more ways you can save at Woolworths.

How to apply for a Woolworths credit card

Follow the links on this page to start a secure online credit card application on the Woolworths website. The application will only take you ten to fifteen minutes to complete if you have the following information ready.

Required information

  • Identification - As well as some basic information about yourself, have your drivers licence handy. If you can’t meet the online verification requirements, you may be required to verify your identity by providing 100 points of identification. If this is the case, Woolworths will contact you about their conditions.
  • Income - You’ll need to input information about your income and employer. You may also be asked to provide proof of your income to Woolworths. For example, by sending them your most recent payslips.
  • Expenses - If you want to save money on credit card repayments with a balance transfer, you’ll need your credit card with the debt you want to transfer close by when you apply for the Woolworths credit card. The application also requires you to list your ongoing expenses like rent or mortgage repayments, child support and your weekly food budget.

How do I check on my credit card application?

If you applied for a Woolworths credit card but didn’t hear anything about your application, call the Customer Service team on 1300 10 1234 and follow the prompts to speak to a representative.

You may also want to check the junk folder of your inbox. The email about your application can sometimes get tagged as spam.

What happens if my application has been declined?

You’ll be informed in writing as well as by email if your credit card application is declined. Credit card providers are unable to tell you why an applciation has been rejected; however, if it’s because of your credit file, you’ll be notified of this and directed to further information.

How do I transfer my card debt to a Woolworths card with a balance transfer?

As a new customer

You can elect to transfer your non-Woolworths credit card or store card debt to a Woolworths credit card when you apply for the account online.

  • Balance transfers are accepted from other credit cards or store cards only.
  • You can transfer from up to four other credit cards or store cards.
  • The minimum amount you can transfer is $500 and the maximum amount is up to your available credit limit.

If you’re approved for the account, once your receive and activate the card, the balance transfer will be automatically processed by Woolworths.

For existing customers

Existing Woolworths account holders that want to transfer a balance from another credit card or store card will need to complete and send in a balance transfer request form. Download this from the Woolworths website.

If your balance transfer to a Woolworths credit card is accepted, it can take up to 14 business days before the funds clear and you can see the balance in your account.

When do I get my first credit card statement?

Your statement is issued within five weeks of the first transaction you make on your Woolworths credit card. If you have requested a balance transfer, it counts as a transaction and is processed as soon as you activate your Woolworths credit card.

How do I get interest-free days on purchases?

To get ‘up to’ interest free days on purchases, pay back the purchases you make on your credit card within the interest-free period. Check the Woolworths credit card product table on our review pages to see whether the Woolworths credit card offers interest-free days.

You will not receive any interest-free days on your purchases if you’re carrying a balance from the previous month, like when you pay off a balance transfer promotion over the length of the promotional period. You also will not any interest-free days if you carry out a cash transaction, like withdrawing money from the ATM.

What’s the minimum amount I must pay of my credit card every month?

If you can’t pay your Woolworths credit card balance in full when your statement is issued, you’re required to pay back a small percentage of your total outstanding balance by the due date shown on your statement. This is called the minimum monthly repayment. You can find information about the minimum repayment for Woolworths credit cards on our review pages.

How do I make a repayment to my Woolworths credit card?

You can make a repayment to your Woolworths credit card in the following ways.

  • BPAY. If you’re paying your Woolworths credit card from another institution’s online banking facility, log on to your internet banking and select BPAY from the payments and transfers menu. BPAY payments can take up to two business days to process.
    • BPAY Biller Code: 017574.
    • Your customer reference number is your account number.
  • Direct debit. You can set up a direct debit payment from your everyday transaction or savings account with another bank. You can set up a direct debit to pay just the minimum repayment due on your account, a fixed amount or the entire balance of your credit card. It can take up to five business days for a direct debit payment to be processed.
  • In person. You can also pay your credit card at a Woolworths supermarket or BIG W store. You can pay with cash or a debit card. All you need to do is show your Woolworths credit card to a representative.
  • By mail. Send a cheque to Everyday Money Credit Cards PO Box 347 Artarmon, NSW 1570 and allow up to five business days for the cheque to be processed. You may also have to account for the time it takes for the cheque to be delivered in the post.

What happens if my credit card is about to expire?

Two weeks before your old card is about to expire, a new card will be sent out to you in the mail. If, for whatever reason, you don’t get your card, you need to call Woolworths Money Customer Service on 1300 10 1234.

How do I find out my credit limit on my Woolworths credit card?

Your credit limit is how much money Woolworths will allow you to spend on your card. They use a calculation of your income, assets, debts and liabilities to find out how much you could afford to repay.

You can request a specific credit limit or you can request the maximum amount of credit you can get. If you want more credit, request a credit limit increase. Each request for more credit is judged by the same criteria, so don’t expect to be granted more credit if you’ve taken the maximum amount and your circumstances have not changed.

You can request a credit limit increase by downloading the credit limit increase form available on the Woolworths website.

How do I get an additional card for a family member?

There’s the option of applying for an additional cardholder when during the online application for a Woolworths credit card. Or this can be done after the application by downloading an additional cardholder application from the Woolworths Money website.

Each Woolworths credit card may allow you to get a different number of additional cardholders. You can find out more on our review pages.

Each supplementary cardholder must be over the age of 16 and an Australian resident. If you have a family member who is over the age of 18, they can apply for a Woolworths credit card in their own name.

If you want to cancel a supplementary card, you need to notify Woolworths Money in writing, and then cut the card up and send it back to them in pieces.

What do I do if I lose my card or it’s stolen?

Report a lost or stolen card immediately to Customer Service on 1300 10 1234. Do this right away otherwise you may be liable for charges on the card if someone else tries to use it.

If you’re overseas call +612 8276 0144. A fee may be charged to get your credit card sent out to you.

Who is the credit provider for Woolworths credit cards?

Both credit card products offered by Woolworths are underwritten by HSBC — they’re the credit provider for Woolworths. All cards issued after the 26th of October are underwritten by Macquarie Bank.

This shouldn’t be something you need to consider when applying for a Woolworths credit card. However, this will be factor if you’re looking to transfer a balance to a Woolworths credit card from an existing HSBC credit card.

What’s the difference between Everyday Money and Everyday Rewards?

The Woolworths Everyday Money MasterCard and Qantas Platinum Credit Card are products that operate as credit facilities. You can use them to finance your day-to-day purchases or as an emergency source of cash.

The Everyday Rewards Card is a Woolworths product that you use to hold your fuel saving discounts, and earn Everyday Rewards Points when you spend at Woolworths Group stores.

Cardholders will see real benefits when the Everyday Money Cards and the Everyday Rewards cards are linked. Existing Everyday Rewards members can do this when they apply for the Woolworths credit card. You get money off at the fuel pump when you swipe your credit card, you earn Everyday Rewards on all your credit card purchases and you get bonus points when you spend at Woolworths stores.

What is the Reloadable Prepaid MasterCard?

A prepaid MasterCard lets you spend your own money to shop online or in-store. They can be used everywhere MasterCard is accepted.

They’re a budgeting tool that can also be used by people who have bad credit and want a hassle-free way to make electronic payments.

Can I get a Woolworths Prepaid Credit Card?

These cards are prepaid, there’s no credit facility, and there’s no credit checks. They are widely available to purchase in-store at Woolworths, Big W or Safeway.

    Hi,

Woolworths has a credit card called “Woolworths Money Qantas Platinum Credit Card”. Does the name imply that it is a Qantas Frequent Flyer card? Do the points earned on this card translate to equal Qantas Frequent Flyer points? For example, 1000 points earned translate to 1000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points under the Qantas FF program.

    Thanks
    Fred

      Hi FredW,

      Thanks for your question.

This card is tied to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and allows you to earn Qantas Points for your purchases. You’ll earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases, and 2 points per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services. You can read more about the card, as well as apply for it, on this page.

      I hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth

      Hi goitsemang,

      Thanks for your question.

You should receive an email or a message relatively quickly after completing your application letting you know whether you’d been approved, conditionally approved or declined. You may want to get in touch with Woolworths directly to check on the status of your application.

      I hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth | October 7, 2014

      Hi Patrick,

      Thanks for your question.

You’re able to do this via the online account area on the Woolworths Money website. You just need to go to the secure login area and enter the last 12 digits of your credit card number plus your six digit access code.

      Hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

    • Staff
      Elizabeth | October 7, 2014

      Hi Nomsa,

      Thanks for your question.

If the statement has your name on it then it’s important to get in contact with Woolworths and have them cancel the card immediately to prevent any further transactions being made. If this is not a mistake on Woolworths part, then this may be a case of identity theft and so would be a good time to get in contact with the police.

We’ve also written a page on credit identity theft that can help you understand this situation a bit more and that you might want to take a read of.

      Hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth

    • Staff
      Elizabeth | August 28, 2014

      Hi Ryan,

      Thanks for your question.

While Woolworths doesn’t offer an explicit guarantee for this, you’ll be protected by MasterCard’s fraud guarantee that offers money back for transactions that you are not responsible for.

      Thanks,

      Shirley | August 18, 2014

      Hi Syl,

      Thanks for your question.

Did you tell your credit card provider that you were going overseas? Woolworths may have interpreted this as a fraudulent transaction, and that someone may have stolen your credit card to use overseas.

I’d recommend speaking to the customer service team at Woolworths to enquire about this.

      All the best,

Are there any credit cards available for people on disability pensions ?

    • Staff
      Jacob | January 13, 2014

      Hi, Sonya.

      Thanks for your question.

You can still apply for a credit card if you’re on a disability pension provided that you meet the minimum eligibility requirements for that product. You find the application requirements on each card’s review page. Have a look at the table at the bottom of the review. If there is no minimum income requirement, you will be assessed on your ability to service the minimum credit limit.

      I hope this helps.

      Hi Nathan.

There is no minimum load amount if you load the card up at a Woolworths, Safeway or Big W store. There is a $50 minimum load using BPAY and Direct Credit.

Hi, I applied for a woolworths credit card, as I spend a lot of money regularly at this store, however, for some reason the application is not going through. I have a perfect credit rating, so this is strange, I have tried multiple attempts to e-mail the company for an explanation however have been ignored. This is extremely poor service I should not have to beg to receive a service or product from a company, and if I do not receive a reply promptly will shop elsewhere.

    • Staff
      Jacob | December 5, 2013

      Hi Remla.

      Thanks for your question.

Is it that the application itself is not working or that your application has been declined?

If your application has been knocked back, you can have a look at some of the common reasons why people have their credit card application denied on this page. Generally speaking, trying to get information about why you’ve been declined for credit can be like trying to get water from a stone. If you’re unhappy with the service the company is providing, the best thing to do is use your power as a consumer and take your dollars elsewhere.

      I hope this helps.

      Jacob.

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 2, 2013

      Hi Lufefe.
      Thanks for your question.
If you’ve just applied for a card, you don’t get to choose what day you pay your account. You will receive a credit card statement, either online or in the post, telling you when you card payment is due. You must pay your account by this date or you will get charged a late payment fee. After a month or two, you should be able to call the lender directly and ask them to change your credit card statement date.
      I hope this helps.

Woolworths Everyday Rewards is not available to people in Tasmania. There’s a different rewards scheme called the Frequent Shopper Club instead. People in Tasmania can still apply for the Woolworths Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card, which rewards you with Qantas Points, however, you won’t be able to link that card to the Every Rewards Program to earn bonus points.

Essentially I’m looking for a balance transfer card that allows me to shop at woolies and collect frequent flyer points at the same time. How much is an eligible purchase? Can’t find any monetary figure. Thanks

    • Staff
      Jacob | May 13, 2013

Hi Juliet. Thanks for your question. Currently, this card is not offering a balance transfer promotion to customers. There are a number of cards that let you earn Qantas Frequent Flyer (QFF) Points when you make an eligible purchase. An eligible purchase is basically all your everyday purchases you make on the card, including things like groceries. An ineligible purchase is a cash transaction, like a balance transfer or withdraw cash from an ATM. The real value of this card comes when it’s linked to the Everyday Rewards Card. When you do this you can earn bonus QFF points when you shop at Woolworths and Woolworths Group stores. When you spend over $30 in one transaction, you will get 1 QFF point for every dollar spent (over $30). You can compare Qantas Frequent Flyer credit cards here, some of these cards have a balance transfer offer – look for the offer in the comparison table. Let me know if you need more information. is visa cards accepted more world widely than mastercards.??

    • Staff
      Jacob | April 18, 2013

Hi Kym. Thanks for your question. So MasterCard say that you can use their cards in over 33 million locations worldwide and Visa have a similar number. It’s difficult to say that one card is accepted in more locations than the other, in my experience while I was overseas, merchants and ATMs accepted both Visa and MasterCard equally, although Visa has a slightly larger market share than MasterCard. Hope this helps, Jacob.

Hi Kgari. Thanks for your question. If you apply online, you should get an answer within minutes. If this is isn’t the case, can you please contact Woolworths directly. You can find their contact number on this page. Please be vigilant with checking on the status of your application. The process should only take a week to two weeks before you have your card. what is the interest rate on balance transfers (approx $1000) to the woolworths everyday money card? And what credit limits are available?
    Thank you

    • Staff
      Jacob | April 11, 2013

Hi Joanna. Thanks for your question. Woolworths is currently not offering a balance transfer promotion to either of their cards listed on our site. For balance transfer offers, please check this page. Information about the minimum credit limit for these cards can be found on their individual review and application pages. You can elect a credit limit when you apply for the card; however, the final say will rest with the lender, they will assign a credit limit based on what they think you can service – mainly determined by the financial information you provide during the application. Jacob.

Do not expect a quick turn around on this card, I applied some time late January & received approval notice 2 weeks ago after several followup requests for information and proof of identity, and the card arrived yesterday. Of course your experience may differ.

I applied online last Thursday for a credit card. I haven’t received any response at all. Nothing. So I don’t know who to contact. I have no reference number. I am wondering if the application got lost in cyberspace. I don’t want to re apply if it has been received. I believe the Woolworths card is through HSBC. They say do call if it is an online application. What should I do?
