Features of the Woolworths Qantas Credit Card

Shopping for a credit card can be such hard work because of the delicate balance you are looking for, between affordability and functionality. Usually in the search for a low fee credit card you have to forgo a number of useful features and it can be those features which help you manage your credit card spending and repayments responsibly. While everyone has their own balance point between fees and features, consider whether the Woolworths Qantas credit card strikes the right balance with you:

    • Receive 16,000 bonus Frequent Flyer points1.
    • Earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $1 you spend on most purchases2. Woolworths shoppers now have the opportunity to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points for their day-to-day purchases at Woolworths chains and partnered stores.
    • Earn extra Qantas Frequent Flyer points through Everyday Rewards3. Because this credit card is also an Everyday Rewards card you can earn additional Qantas Frequent Flyer points through Everyday Rewards program partners . You will earn 1 additional Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $1 you spend over $30 (in one transaction) at Woolworths Supermarkets, BWS stores outside of Tasmania and at BIG W. You’ll also earn 1 point for every $1 you spend over $50 (in one transaction) in participating Dick Smith stores.
    • Travel with your points. You can redeem your Frequent Flyer points for travel to over 700 destinations4 in Australia or around the world, flying Qantas, Jetstar or one of 25 other partnered airlines.
    • Shop with your points. There are more than 1,800 products in the Qantas online store and you can purchase electronics, home wares, clothing or gift vouchers for yourself, or to help with the Christmas shopping. The Woolworths Everyday Money MasterCard has taken frequent Australian grocery shoppers by storm. A combination of true quality and a broad scale marketing campaign resulted in a mass of satisfied credit card owners.
    • Earn fuel rewards. You will also still earn fuel saving vouchers with Everyday Rewards partners.6
    • Up to 55 days interest free on purchases7. If you are able to pay your balance down to zero in each statement period then you can enjoy up to 55 days interest free on your new purchases. This gives you over a month to avoid the purchase rate, while cash advances attract the cash advance rate right away. Being able to make purchases interest free gives you the opportunity to manage your credit account without having to worry about interest charges while you also have the space to manage your own cash flow by using the bank’s money throughout the month instead of your own.
    • A low annual fee of . When you consider the features and benefits and the great earn rate of 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point per $1 spent everywhere MasterCard is accepted, included with your Woolworths Qantas credit card – the annual fee is a very affordable one, especially compared to other full featured credit cards available.

Consumers who don’t have a Frequent Flyer membership don’t have to pay the $82.50 membership fee – It’s free when you apply for the Everyday Money card!

Applying for the Woolworths Qantas Credit Card credit card should take no more than 10 to 15 minutes, and the following documents are required for you to make your application:

    • Your personal details, including driver’s licence number
    • Your contact details, including address, phone numbers and email address
    • Employment details, including time in current job
    • Details of your income and expenditure
    • Details of any other credit cards owned

What’s the difference between the ‘Everyday Money’ and the ‘Everyday Rewards’ card?

The Everyday Money card is Woolworth’s shopping MasterCard. You earn reward points for spending at Woolworths and associated store chains (Big W, Dick Smith and Tandy to name a few).

The Everyday Rewards card is a result of the new alliance between Qantas Frequent Flyer and Woolworths. Consumers can apply for a free Everyday Rewards card online, and earn Frequent Flyer points when they shop at Woolworths. It is not a credit card.

You earn 1 Frequent Flyer point for every $1 spent over $30. For instance, if you made a $300 purchase, you would earn 270 Qantas FF points.

You need to link your Frequent Flyer membership with your Everyday Rewards card before you can start earning points.

What if I’m not interested in earning Frequent Flyer points? I hardly ever fly?

A common misconception is that Frequent Flyer points are solely redeemable for flights and related rewards only.

The FF program has access to a whole range of rewards, including electronics, wine, sports & outdoors and gift vouchers. View the catalogue here.

You don’t have to be a Frequent Flyer member or already have an Everyday Rewards account to apply for the Woolworths Qantas credit card. Simply complete an application form online and you will automatically be made a member on your application and can enjoy the benefits sooner.

What’s an eligible purchase?

Qantas Frequent Flyer points are earned on all eligible purchases. Eligible purchases exclude: business expenses, interest free promotions, balance transfers and cash advances.

We have recently gained permanent residency and earn well in excess of $50,000 per annum; however, we have not established a credit history over the last two and a half years except a very good banking history & rental payments. Can we still apply even though we have not established the “good credit history”?

      Jacob | June 8, 2013

Hi Peter. Thanks for your question. If you’re worried about the status of an application due to a credit history, you may want to consider speaking to a representative from a lender directly. They may be able to suggest an alternate credit product. Jacob.

HI Jack. If you add an additional cardholder to the account, when they spend and earn points they will go to the primary account holders ‘s frequent flyer membership. Thanks. Jacob.

If you use the MasterCard to pay license fees, Car reg no. and other Govt. charges do you earn points. You have previously mentioned in a reply that you will not earn points for any government charge.

Hi Bryan. I believe car registration is a personal consumer purchase and is considered an eligible transaction. Government charges do not earn points, what do you mean by licence fees? Is this for a driver’s licence? Jacob.

I recently bought a plane ticket (the airline is not Qantas) on the card for a vacation. I have since become unemployed (my employer went into receivership) and cannot go on the trip due to my visa situation (can’t leave the country until employment is sorted). Does the card have any insurance protection in this situation?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Richard. Thanks for your question. This product does not offer complimentary international insurance; however, you can get credit card insurance, which covers the minimum monthly repayment in the event you lose your job. Jacob.

    • Staff
      Jacob | April 24, 2013

Hi Greg. You can only link one Qantas Frequent Flyer membership per account. So, if your wife has an additional card, she will earn points for the main account when she spends, which will be credited to the linked Qantas Frequent Flyer account. Jacob.

Hi, I just applied for a qantas c/card with a balance transfer of $4k. I would like to reduce the transfer amount but wondered if this will be done automatically if I’m approved? Also, I listed that I have two current cards but I will be terminating one of these if and when I’m approved. Will this information help my application?
    Thanks, Jodie

      Jacob | March 23, 2013

Hi Jodie. Thanks for your question. If you would like to reduce the amount your carrying from one credit card to another through a balance transfer, please contact your lender directly. The balance transfer will be processed once you activate the credit card, so you want to speak to Woolworths Everyday Money before you do this. Once you apply for a balance transfer and are approved for a new credit card, it’s responsibility to close the old credit card. The fact that you’re closing you old card has no bearing on your chances of approval for you new card. Cheers. Jacob.

If I travel overseas and put in AUD $5000 into my account so it’s in credit, what are the fees for a withdrawal from you? I.e I go to an atm in thailand and withdrawn $1000 AUD in Thai Baht?

    • Staff
      Marc | March 4, 2013

      HI Michelle,
      thanks for the question!

If this card is used for withdrawing cash at an overseas ATM, you’ll have to pay the following charges, even if the card is in credit.

Cash advance withdrawal fee of $2.50 or 2% of the transaction amount (whichever is greater)
A foreign currency conversion charge of 1.5% of the AUD amount of each withdrawal
ATM fees which may be charged by the overseas ATM owner

      I hope this helps,
      Marc.

      Marc | February 25, 2013

      Hi John,
      Thank you for the question.

To be eligible to apply for this card applicants need to have a minimum annual income of $50,000 and a good credit rating in addition to the basic eligibility requirements listed such as being over 18 years of age and being a permanent resident. If this is met there’s no reason why an applicant can’t apply for the card.

    Hi,
Trying to clarify if you get 1 point per dollar spent outside of a woolworths affiliated store or everyday rewards card accepted stores. I have checked the website for this card and it does not clarify it properly. From how I read it, it appears you only get points at stores affiliated with the everyday rewards program as indicated by point number 2 in the terms and conditions printed here.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Julius

    • Staff
      Marc | February 22, 2013

      Hello Julius,
      thanks for the question!

This card does earn 1 point per dollar spent on eligible purchases outside of Woolworths and its affiliated stores. It also however earns an additional point per dollar spent when your transaction is over $30 at participating Woolworths, BWS and Big W stores. This additional point is earned on your everyday rewards account, which is linked to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. There’s an everyday rewards barcode on the back of the card which you scan when at a Woolworths card.

      I hope this helps,
      Marc.

    Hi Jacob,
I appreciate your more human answers than Jeremy’s =)
I have checked Terms etc and read through the Q&A, but am still not 100% sure on a very common question. How many points do i get?

Say i spend $100 at woolies, I get 100 FF points for using the card. PLUS 70 FF points from the everyday rewards. total =170 FF points for the $100 purchase.
    Is this correct?

Then if I spend $100 at Coles, I simply get 100 FF points for using the card. Correct?

Thanks very much for your simple answer and not referring me to any clause somewhere.

    James

Thanks Jacob, following on from previous question, I called Woolworths here in tassie and asked whether it was likely that Tasmania would change to the same system as everywhere else and I was told it’s being looked at. Why is Tasmania not the same as the rest of Australia in regard to having the Everyday Rewards Program? It seems Tasmanians are severely disadvantaged!

    • Staff
      Jacob | February 6, 2013

Hi Craig. We’re not sure why it’s different.
Tasmania has the Frequent Shopper Card. It’s different from the Everyday Rewards Card in the following ways:
      a) you don’t have to spend over a certain amount to earn points (Everyday Rewards – spending over $30 earns points).
      b) you only earn points shopping at Woolworths supermarkets (Everyday Rewards you can earn points shopping at Dick Smith etc.).
      Thanks for your question.

      Jacob | January 22, 2013

Hi Shane. When you apply for a credit card that lets you earn Qantas Frequent Flyer Points, you will be asked to link the card to a Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account. If you have an existing Qantas Frequent Flyer membership, you can link it to your new credit card, you keep your existing points and all spending will earn points that go towards that membership. Thanks for your question.

    Hi

How many points can I earn in one year?

    thanks

    John

    • Staff
      Marc | January 3, 2013

      Hello John,

      Thanks for your question.

The Woolworths Qantas Credit Card has no points cap, so there’s no limit to the amount of points one can earn in a year.

The card earns 1 point for every $1 spent on eligible transactions. At certain participating Woolworths stores this becomes 2 points per $1 spent if the transaction is over $30.

Points are only earned on eligible purchases however, so check out the Frequent Flyer website for more details about how to earn them.

I hope this answers your question,

      Marc.

    • Staff
      Jacob | December 12, 2012

Hi Luke. Thanks for your question. It really depends on whether the biller is set up as a BPAY biller. If so, the transaction will be treated as a purchase and you’ll earn points. If not, it’s treated as a cash advance and you won’t earn points. Cheers.

I researched the terms and conditions but could not find the following information.

1.’Earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $1 you spend on most purchases’
    Ques: what are ‘most’ purchases

    2. Are there cancellation fees? or any cooling off periods?

    3. Can the credit card accountants department link my current savings account to this card so regardless of the amount on the statement period they can direct debt this amount?

    4. Are the statement periods also 55 days? Or are they monthly and I have an extra approx 34 days to pay?

That is all for now :-)

    • Staff
      Jacob | November 14, 2012

Hi Rebecca. Thanks for your questions.
      1. Most purchases refers to eligible purchases: everything except business purchases, interest free promotions, balance transfers and cash advances.
      2. There are no cancellation fees or cooling off periods – if you are not carrying an outstanding balance on your card, you’re free to cancel any time at no charge.
      3. Yes, what you’re referring to is a direct debit agreement , which can be set up easily enough by filling out a direct debit agreement form from Woolworths Everyday Money.
      4. Statements come monthly.

      Hope this helps.

When you sign up for the Woolworths Qantas Credit Card you will be asked to provide your Qantas Frequent Flyer (QFF) membership number and you can link you new card to your old QFF account. Once this is done any points you earn on your new card will be credited to your account. The Woolworths Qantas Credit Card does offer Frequent Flyer points when you make a purchase, you can check to see how many you have earnt through Qantas Online membership services. Cheers.

All new applications for Woolworths credit cards are treated as new customers, so this 16,000 bonus points would be available to you again.

Can I still use my orange rewards card once I get the new MasterCard? Sometimes I pay cash.
Where can I pay each month if I don’t do external banking or use B pay.

    • Staff
      Jacob | October 8, 2012

Hi Rhonda. Thanks for your question. If you don’t use your online services to pay the card, it can be done at any Woolworths, Big W or Safeway store. The money generally takes about 24 hours to clear and you can pay up to $2,000 each time. If you’re using a Orange Rewards Card, you can request to have the bar code printed on to the back of your new Woolworths Qantas Credit Card in order to avoid carrying around two cards. Hope this helps.

Does this card generate Frequent Flyer point for BPay transactions?

    Thanks

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 3, 2012

Hi David. Thanks for your question. In order to earn points on BPAY transactions, you will need to make sure the organisation you are trying to pay is registered as a BPAY biller. If they are, then your transaction will be treated like a purchase, you’ll be charged the purchase rate of interest and you will earn points. If they aren’t registered as a BPAY biller, the transaction will be treated as a cash advance and you will not earn points. To find out which business as registered as BPAY billers, check the BPAY website.

Hi Jeremy. I think I’m almost clear and ready to apply. Can you clarify by example how many points would be earned for a $250 grocery shop at Woolworths using this card? My interpretation is
250 points from the Mastercard purchase plus
220 extra points for the rewards transaction less $30
    totalling 470 points
    Is this correct?

    • Staff

Hi Heather. Thanks for your question. You will earn 1:1 points to dollars as normal in addition to an extra point per dollar spent for spending over $30 at Woolworths, which comes to 220. Total points earnt would be 470. Cheers.

If ‘eligible purchases’ excludes only the criteria you mention – business expenses, interest free promotions, balance transfers and cash advances – then it implies that I could spend $100 on groceries at Coles, pay for it with the Woolies credit card and accrue 100 points.

      Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the question. The terms and conditions state that: ‘earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point per $1 spent on eligible purchases.’ Eligible purchases exclude: ‘No points are earned on business expenses, interest free promotions, balance transfers and cash advances.’ You will also: ‘earn 1 point per $1 spent over $30* in one transaction at Woolworths Supermarkets and BWS stores (excluding Tasmania) and BIG W stores, and 1 point per $1 spent over $50* in one transaction at participating Dick Smith stores through the Everyday Rewards program. Earn 1 point per $1 spent in one transaction at Cellarmasters. Simply pay using the credit card and scan the Everyday Rewards barcode on the back of the credit card.’ Cheers.

    • Staff

Hi Col. Thanks for your question and sorry for the delayed response. You get 1:1 when you spend on your Woolworths Qantas Credit Card = 50 points + 20 points when you use your Everyday Rewards (1:1 on purchases over $30). This is how the rewards system works: When you get a Woolworths Qantas Credit Card, you will receive one Qantas Frequent Flyer points per dollar spent when you make an eligible purchase (eligible purchases exclude cash transactions like balance transfers and cash advances – and you do get points when you shop at all different types of merchants, not just Woolworths). When you link your Everyday Rewards Card, if you make a purchase over $30 at Woolworths and Woolworths Group stores, you will receive an additional Qantas Frequent Flyer point. You will earn 1:1 points to dollars as normal in addition to an extra point per dollar spent for spending over $30 at Woolworths, plus additional points for spending at partnered outlets. in terms of earning points on paying a bill, it depends on the type of bill you want to pay.

Hi Cley. Thanks for your question.
See this page for the difference between Visa and MasterCard – American Express is not accepted in as many locations.
Products that earn 2 QFF points per dollar spent – see our frequent flyer comparison table – currently it’s not possible to earn this number of points making regular purchases; however, you can earn double the number of points when you make a bonus purchase – see the comparison table for more information.
There is no points capping with the Woolworths Qantas Credit Card.
You can only link your Everyday Rewards Card to your Woolworths Qantas Credit Card – this allows you to earn one bonus point for every dollar spent on a purchase over $30 at Woolworths stores.
Additional cardholders: $0. If you would like to add an additional cardholder you can do so at no extra cost. Once your application is approved, simply complete & sign the Additional Cardholder Application Form and return to the address provided on the Form.

      Hi,

When you join the Woolworths Everyday Rewards Program you can join the Qantas Frequent Flyer rewards program without the joining fee through Everyday Rewards. When I applied for my Everyday Rewards card, I created my Qantas Frequent Flyer account during the sign-up process and saved $82.50. Perhaps try logging in to your Woolworths Everyday Rewards program and registering for the Qantas Frequent Flyer program through there. The following is an excerpt from the terms and conditions that answers the second part of your question: “16,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points offer is available to new primary cardholders who apply between 6 March and 31 May 2012, are approved and make an eligible purchase on their Woolworths Everyday Rewards Qantas credit card by 31 July 2012. Offer is not available to existing Woolworths Everyday Money credit cardholders who request to transfer to this product. If there is a transaction on your account that was not authorised by yourself in any way, you will be covered by the electronic funds transfer (EFT) code of conduct, if there’s a transaction before you receive the card, there’s a transaction after you notify the issuer about a unauthorised transaction or misplaced card, resulting from the fraudulent transaction of Woolworth’s employees and generally when it is clear that the user has not contributed to the loss of the card. Thanks for the question. This card can be paid through BPAY or you can set up a direct debit agreement. This is taken from the Everyday Money website: “Earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point per $1 spent over $30* at Woolworths supermarkets and BWS (excluding Tasmania) and BIG W.
Earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point per $1 over $50* at participating Dick Smith stores.
Earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point per dollar spent in one transaction at Cellarmasters.
You can also choose to swap your 4c per litre fuel saving for 2 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per litre^.” Hope this has helped.

      Cheers,
      Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy

My husband has this card and we are considering requesting for an additional cardholder. If we do:
    - will the statement separate the expenses of each cardholder?
    - will the limit remain the same?

    • Staff
      Jacob | April 8, 2013

Hi Debborah. Thanks for your question, sorry about the delay – not sure if this response is still relevant, but, you can have one additional cardholder on this account. The additional card will have a separate number to the primary card, and although you will only get one credit card statement each month, you will be able to differentiate spending by looking at the different card numbers. The credit limit is shared between the two cards. Jacob.

Can a married couple with a combined income of $60,000 p/a apply jointly for this credit card. If so, can this still be done on line

      Jeremy | April 18, 2012

      Hi,

Thanks for your question. This card doesn’t allow joint account holders. You may have up to one additional card holder free of charge, but the supplementary card holder will not have the same benefits as the primary card holder when it comes to increasing the credit limit or closing the account. Applications can be done online. Cheers.

Hi, I currently have a Woolworths Everyday Rewards card which was set up to purchase some goods from Dick Smith Electronics. It hasn’t been activated. Can I upgrade it to the Qantas card? Thanks. Therese

    • Staff
      Jeremy | March 2, 2012

      Hi Therese,

Yes, you will have to apply for the Woolworths Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card, you must first meet the application criteria: be over the age of 18, have a good credit rating and earn over $50,000 p.a. If this is the case you can either apply for the card online through the Credit Card Finder website or contact a Woolworth Everyday Rewards Qantas Card representative. Thanks.

      Cheers

not a question just a rant – Woolworths dockets used to print the discount – you could tear if off and keep in handy in your wallet. Now with the stupid cards you don’t know – and if you ask at a service station, they don’t know until you pay for petrol, if no discount – too late, ha ha, too bad for you !

Yes afterwards I found I can log onto the website, but even that is tricky – Manage your fuel saving offers – OK – the only option is to click on convert to QFF points – you didn’t read before you clicked? too bad, ha ha, you lose !

This is irritating – in future I’ll plan to switch my main grocery shop to Coles – one ex-happy Woolworths customer, now irritated enough by this BS to go to the other side.

      Hi,

Unfortunately we do not have the facility for that kind of search. Generally speaking nearly all cards will require that you are a permanent Australian resident to be eligible for a card; however, there are instances in which certain sub-classes of visa are accepted, but be sure to check the terms and conditions before starting the process.

      Cheers,

Wondering the same as Andrew’s question. Trying to clarify if you get 1 point per dollar spent outside of a woolworths affiliated store or everyday rewards card accepted stores. From how I read it, it appears you only get points at stores affiliated with the everyday rewards program as indicated by point number 2 in the terms and conditions printed here.

Hi Sally. You earn one point per dollar spend on all purchases, excluding transactions such as cash advances and charges for business expenses etc. When you shop at Woolworths and affiliated stores, you will earn an extra bonus point on top of the regular 1:1, if you spend over a certain amount in one transaction. Hope this helped.

According to clause 26.1, ‘We may, at any time without prior notice, cancel or suspend a card, ask for the return of a card, retain a card presented to us or another person, close or suspend your account, or otherwise cancel access to your account.’ So, not much help there – please direct your issue to the Financial Services Ombudsman. Hi Kate,

When they say points earned on most transactions they are referring to eligible transactions. The card can be used everywhere MasterCard is accepted and you will earn points except in the following circumstances: balance transfers, cash advances, special promotions, business expenses, any fee or charge, including any government charge, interest charges, Woolworths Card Repayment Insurance premiums, enforcement expenses, a transaction deemed as fraudulent, a disputed transaction.”

Are FF points kept for indefinite time, or do they only last for so long? I have an Everyday Rewards card, so if I apply for FF Credit card will I have to pay 82.50 to become a member plus the annual fee? Thanks April

    • Staff
      Jeremy | July 25, 2011

      Hi April

      Thanks for your question

Your points won’t expire as long as you keep your account active by earning or using points at least once every 18 months. You will need to earn or use points through your account (excluding transfers to or from an eligible family member) at least once every 18 months to stop your points from expiring.

      Cheers

      In response to your questions:
      1) There is no points capping. That means there is no limit to the amount of points you can earn at the earn rate of 1 point for every $1 you spend.
      2) Yes the card can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted – over 32 million locations worldwide, as well as global ATM access when you select ‘credit’ (however this will be charged at the cash advance rate).
      3) $0. If you would like to add an additional cardholder you can do so at no extra cost. Once your application is approved, simply complete & sign the Additional Cardholder Application Form and return to the address provided on the Form.
